About Me

Hi! I’m Shauna!

I’m a mom, wife, sister, daughter, and, well, yoga teacher! I have been practicing yoga for over 13 years and have enjoyed many wonderful benefits from my practice. So much so that I was inspired to become a yoga teacher.

I completed my 200 HR Yoga Teacher Training in 2017 through Core Power Yoga and completed an additional 50-HR extended training program in 2018. I was particularly inspired by a teacher of mine at a different studio (Purple Yoga), Cidney Corpuz, for his ability to empower and uplift his students throughout our practice. I hope to have that type of positive impact on those I teach.

I originally came to yoga as a means to exercise. I was a cheerleader in high school and felt my flexibility, athleticism and balance starting wane. I started to feel more stiff and sore for no particular reason, and I didn’t love going to the gym or the other group exercise classes I tried. I liked the idea of flowing between poses, like a slow dance routine, and thought I’d give it a try.

What I fell in love with was the ability to dedicate time to myself. Not just to help my body feel better, but to give my mind an opportunity to find stillness and connect with my breath. I found yoga to be transformational in how I interact with myself, the world, and others around me. I have become more patient, empathetic, and self aware as a result of my practice. Yoga also helped me through some very difficult times such as find the courage to seek a divorce and process the grief of my father passing.

I wanted to become a teacher to help people experience the same benefits that I had, and hopefully impart a sense of empowerment, confidence and grace among my students, like Cidney does.

I believe that yoga is for everyone. Yoga is all inclusive and actually involves a lot more than just moving your body. Whether you want to focus on improving your body, your mind, or reconnect with your self, there is a type of yoga that will benefit you.

Classes I Teach

The primary style of yoga that I practice and teach is vinyasa style, which means “flow”. This style emphasizes moving between postures following your breath. When I enter a flow state I feel so beautiful, graceful and strong. I use this as a starting point and create different variations of my classes to offer variety and different types of experiences.
Yoga Foundations
  • Focus on fundamental postures, holding each pose a few breaths.

  • Provides more instruction for each posture to ensure alignment and safe transitions

  • Offers modifications and multiple variations where appropriate

"... "I chose to do a series of guided meditations called '30 Days of Gratitude'.... by Shauna at Kalana Yoga. At the end of the week, I noticed that I felt a little more serene. I stood a little taller and I breathed a little deeper. My self-talk was lighter and I felt more compassion towards myself and the people in my life. I noticed my natural surroundings with a heightened sense of awareness and appreciation for all that my senses took in.""

"Kalana Yoga has been an incredible part of my life for years, and I can’t imagine my health journey without it. From the moment I signed up for my first virtual class, I felt a sense of community and belonging. Shauna, the founder is not only knowledgeable about yoga, self-care, mediation and so many other health avenues, but also deeply passionate and compassionate. She creates an environment that nurtures both body and mind. Not to mention she has the best coaching voice, so taking her classes virtually has been very soothing and relaxing. Through my consistent practice, I have gained strength, flexibility, and a deeper connection to myself. Kalana Yoga has helped me manage stress, find balance, and embrace mindfulness in my daily life. It’s truly a transformative experience that I am forever grateful for."
