Defining Self-Care on Your Terms

(Not Instagram’s)

Let’s talk about something that’s been co-opted, commercialized, and kind of confusing lately:

Self-care.

Here’s what it’s not:
❌ Expensive.
❌ Luxurious.
❌ Perfect.

And here’s what it is (at least around here):
✅ Sustainable.
✅ Nourishing.
✅ Personal.

For busy moms, self-care isn’t just about maintaining the status quo.
It’s about picking ourselves up when we’re running on empty.
It’s about choosing tiny acts of support that help us become the version of ourselves we’re working toward.

So… What Does That Look Like in Real Life?

It starts with a single intention.

A whisper of a goal.
A small desire for something better, easier, or more aligned.

Then, we take messy, honest, real-life steps toward that intention.
(While kids are yelling. While dinner’s in the oven. While our to-do list tries to convince us we don’t have time.)

That’s Where the Kalana Method Comes In

I created this approach as both a yoga teacher and a mom in the trenches with you.
It’s simple, flexible, and actually doable in real life.

Here’s how it works:

🌱 Step 1: Reflect

Where are you right now?
Ask yourself:

  • What’s going well?
  • What’s hard?
  • What are you craving more of?
  • What would feel like a breath of fresh air?

No shame. Just curiosity.

🌟 Step 2: Set an Intention

Where do you want to go?
Not in five years—this week.
Something small, meaningful, and rooted in how you want to feel.

🧭 Step 3: Map It Out

This is where we design your path with three key tools:

  • Lifestyle Integration – Micro-habits that fit your actual life.
Think: stretching while coffee brews, deep breaths at red lights, a 5-minute flow between meetings.
  • Adaptable Practices – Built-in flexibility.
Because life will interrupt. But that doesn’t mean you failed, it means you’re human.
  • Network of Support – You don’t have to do this alone.
Tell your partner, your bestie, your kid: “Here’s what I’m working on.” Let them cheer you on (and maybe join you).

🎉 Step 4: Celebrate

Every. Tiny. Win.

  • You remembered to stretch? Celebrate.
  • You paused before reacting? Celebrate.
  • You signed up for something just for you? Definitely celebrate.
